I feel incredibly lucky being a doula as I think it is the best job in the world. I feel very privileged to be able to watch each birthing Mum, as she shows her incredible strength, courage and natural ability to birth. I get to see that special moment when a baby enters the world and the joy and emotion this brings to the Mum (and Dad). And I finally get to watch the Mum (and Dad) as they become besotted with their new baby (especially if it is their first) and during their first days/weeks with their new baby.
Whether this is your first or your fifth baby, I am here to support you, and I do not come with an agenda. I strongly believe that every woman has the choice to birth their baby in which ever way that looks like for them. Some women want the whole natural birthing experience whether that is at home, or in a birth centre. Some women may want to start in the birth centre, and 'see how they get on'. Some women want to have the option for an epidural, and want to go down the labour ward route, and under certain circumstances, some may chose a Caesarean. My aim is to support you in which ever way feels right for you. This is the only opportunity you will have to birth your baby (you don't get to have a dress rehearsal).
Giving birth to your baby is one of the most wonderful, challenging , rewarding and life changing experiences you will ever have, and memories of your labour will stay with you forever. This is why a positive birth experience is so important. My aim is to help you feel confident, prepared and supported before, during and after your birth.
I strongly believe that all mothers have the right instincts to know how to birth and look after their own babies. There will always be many books written on how to do this, but you will know whatever feels right for you and your baby. I want to help you achieve this.
